Sharepoint 3.0 - Export to Spreadsheet  - owssrv.dll
Caveat: New to SP, just took over this in the wake of our current sysadm's departure. So users want to export lists/libraries data to spreadsheet. They get a "To export a list, you must have a Windows SharePoint Services-compatible application." and when you click ok, it downloads owssvr.dll I have no idea what to do with this, and the lack of information when searching the two subject together do not produce solid information. Please assist. Working with office2007 on the client machine.

Hey Shy, Some additional things that i have come across. 1) Logged into sharepoint host, went to localhost:5553 and attempted the same export but as the system administrator (share27\administrator) I was able to export without issue. Difference of coarse was that it was http vice external https 2)Attempted same trial with https://moss.company.com/mossiste via IE, Now Export to Spreadsheet(via IE) - Download popup for owssvr.iqy - click open - excel opens up - "Microsoft Office Excel Security Notice: Path <...>.iqy Data connections have been blocked. blah blah blah" Enable or Disable. Enable - You do not have adequate permissions to modify this list. Changes to your data cannot be saved. No data is displayed. My user account is granted full access. Thoughts?

This could be related to SSL Certificate, What kind SSL Certificate you are using. In client machine try to add your SSL certificate into trusted one and see its working. Check the ULS Log(C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\LOGS) in Sharepoint server.

So, i edited the bindings and added port 80 so that it has an http port. error still occurs. SSL - sha1RSA, issued by godaddy Looking in the logs, any indication of what I may be looking for? Also, as i get neck deep in dirt, I found something else. Apparently, http://share:5551 and http://share:5552 are the same only http://share:5552 is externally accessible - bindings set to 443. So, i modified share :5551 to be on port 80 and logged in under host machine local administrator, went to site and export to spreadsheet, got a secondary authentication, and it worked. Note: we have smb ldap working to authenticate against sp

Hi Jeremy, Did the ActiveX enabled in the test computer? Please update the SharePoint server to the latest version. Here is a KB about Windows SharePoint Services-compatible solution. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/833714 How about try to use a Excel Viewer. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/sharepointgeneral/thread/060891d4-594b-4fa9-a161-e69a35d92da4Best regards. Emir, I get no activex popup when exporting, the process goes straight to Excel. I get the permissions error from within excel. Sharepoint(moss2007) is at Service Pack2 with the latest Cumulative Update from Oct 2010 The last two do no apply as I have Office 2007 which will override excel viewer, the third suggestion does not apply.

Make sure you have Office 2007 sp2 installed in clien machine. You could download from following Machine http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyId=B444BF18-79EA-46C6-8A81-9DB49B4AB6E5&displaylang=en If you are using form authentication then you should have Office service pack 2 needs to be there (Its not MOSS SP2).

http://techtrainingnotes.blogspot.com/2009/05/sharepoint-with-service-pack-2-sp2.html Take a look at this. It seems like an issue with FBA. I setup a totally new test enviroment with discrete AD and issue still persisted. Checking the "Automatically log me in" option fixed my problem, fixed my FBA problem, NTML auth for LDAP seems to still be broken.

If we/he were getting that message for both firefox and IE then that may be the case, but i believe he being in the same boat I was, firefox is not compatible for the owa stuff sharepoint provides, (IE only for export to excel)

Try installing WSS support for Office. The process is mentioned in the following KB http://support.microsoft.com/kb/833714
