We have upgraded our Personal Site collection from 2010 to 2013 and the preliminary users in the new farm receive e-mails from the system suggesting people to connect with.  The problem is links in the emails are broken and I would like to know how to go about repairing them.

The e-mails come from 'personalsite@domain.com' sent by the My Site Host.

The links above are incorrect.  "Email settings" doesn't include a protocol or server, and the "Manage the information" link points to the central admin server help file, and that doesn't find any help using the article keywords specified so I get the message "We don't have anything in particular to recommend for what you're doing, but feel free to look around!".  Other users can't get to the central admin server so they just get a broken link.

Has anyone else faced this?  Thank you for your insight.

According to your description, my understanding is that the links in the outgoing email content  for mysite is broken. In order to solve the problem more efficiently I need to clarify some information.

Is your email customized, when to send the email ? do you have the site address changed after upgrading, and the link still point to old address?

I recommend  that you use  PowerShells Invoke-AlertFixup command to update URLs.

E.g.

Invoke-AlertFixup -site http://extranet.cohovineyardandwinery.com -oldurl http://extranet.cohowinery.com

Hi Eric, thank you for replying.

In this case the site name has not changed and we have not customized e-mail settings for the My Site Host.  This is also a new type of social e-mail sent from Sharepoint 2013.  Sharepoint 2010 did not have this kind of e-mail.

Since the site name has not changed, the Invoke-AlertFixUp command would not apply in this case.  Note that the link for "email settings" is set to "?emailpref=1".  There's no server name or protocol defined at all.

I wonder if this issue was solved after long time. Was it solved automatically with any cumulative update?

I did a later upgrade and installed the September 2014 CU before releasing in production.  After that upgrade I noticed that these emails were not being sent by the personal site collection anymore.  We have outgoing mail configured on the personal site web application, and I'm not aware of any other difference in config between our initial setup and the production rollout other than that CU.  It just doesn't seem to send these mails anymore so there hasn't been anything to fix.

The only thing I found out is that the "?emailpref=1" link should in fact be:

http://<yourmysite>/_layouts/15/EditProfile.aspx?emailpref=1

This will allow the user to opt out of this email.

But I am still wondering how this email template could be fixed.
