Sharepoint 2007 domain migration.
Hi, Is it possible to migrate from old domain to new domain without new sharepoint installation? I have: one new domain one old domain Shrepoint 2007 in old domain. Some people say that only way is: 1. Setup new sharepoint server in new domain 2. Restore from backup.

I agree with this approach, you should really start on a fresh install. Sometimes the the simpliest approach is the best.Kanwal SharePoint Buzz

I am assuming you are referring to an Active Directory Domain rather than an Internet Domain. Your steps are correct, however without authentication (a trust perhaps) to the old active directory, your users will not be able to authenticate. If you also need to migrate users from the old domain, you will need to run an Stsadm Migrate user to update the user credentials. Edit: Here is Microsoft's recommended path to migrate to a new farm.

Trust is ok. Users already migrated to new domain and all works fine. But i must do the last step - migrate Sharepoint 2007 to new AD. just a simple scheme for best understanding - http://yfrog.com/hqsharepointmigrationp

Edit: Here is Microsoft's recommended path to migrate to a new farm. Maybe there is another way? Some sharepoints guys say that migration is possible without new installation.

Hi, If you want to migrate SharePoint from a source server to a target server within a new domain, you should go with new installation on target server and then migrate database and users. If there is no physically change, just moving to a new domain, I am not quite sure whether it works without a new SharePoint installation as I haven’t test this yet. The first thing I can think of is the service accounts will be invalid without a new SharePoint installation, you may need to change the services accounts followed KB 934838. There is also a chance of other issues occur. Thanks & Regards. Lily Wu
