Sharepoint 2007 - Post DB Migraiton Issue .. Could not access Search Service configuration DB
Hi Vissa, Please refer http://sharepointknowledgebase.blogspot.com/2009/03/cannot-start-wss-search-service-office.html in which Amol gave resolution - Disconnect from the SharePoint Farm (by running the SharePoint Configuration Wizard) and reconnect, this time using the NetBIOS name for the DB server. You will need to set the Indexer for any SSP’s you have created and restart some of the Services on the SharePoint Server but you should get back up and running. Hope this helps.Regards, Pratik Vyas | SharePoint Consultant | http://sharepointpratik.blogspot.com/

Hello Pratik, You are right if the db name or path is not accessible ( Description/Context/Details section of error log). in my case it is auth failed. I migrated the sql to a sql2005 on another server and set all permissions. But still getting the below. Could not access the Search service configuration database. Context: Application 'adf8540e-531b-4e1d-9547-9a7aab6b5350' Details: Authentication failed. (0x80040e4d-Vissa

I'm receiving the same error in event viewer, with a similar setup. We have our WSS_Content db on a remote SQL 2008 server, and i am trying to point the search db at the same server as the content one. It was initially installed with the SQL Embedded option, and i've made the changes in central administration to the search server settings, but event viewer is still showing a similar message to SVissa with authentication failed, and i'm unsure where i need to be checking at.

Are your both servers on different domains? If they are on the same active directory domain then you can use Xavor SharePoint 2010 Migrator to restructure and migrate contents and permissions from MOSS to MOSS and SP 2010. You can download an evaluation here: http://www.xavor.com/index.php/what-we-do/solutions/xavor-sharepoint-2010-migrator/download-free-xavor-sharepoint-2010-migrator-trial/
