Shared services provide admin site missing
A bunch of errors in an event log caught my attention today. It looks like the admin site for my shared services provide is missing. I have no idea how/when this happened and it could have been gone for a long time. What is the right way to go about recreating this site?

I've encountered the same problem. I'm getting the following in the Application log:Event Type: ErrorEvent Source: Office SharePoint ServerEvent Category: Office Server Shared Services Event ID: 5290Date: 10/24/2007Time: 3:38:30 PMUser: N/AComputer: RUBYDescription:There is no administration site associated with the Shared Services Provider SharedServices1.For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.I noticed that I don't have an admin site for my shared services either, and there is none to select to add to it. It may have been something I did accidentally, but I'm wondering if there is a way to recreate the admin site. Thanks,Levi Reep

Same here, perhaps with enough of us notifying them of this error they will figure things out. This is just one symptom of the lack of a Shared Services admin site - it caused havoc with my site when trying to allow users to access "my site" sites. I had to create a new shared services and transfer services to the new one.

I don't know if this helps, but I produced the same issue by deleting one of the default sharepoint sites. It was the one with formatted as "SharePoint - #####"where the number symbols (#) was an unconventional HTTP port number - meaning not port 80.

It's pretty long winded but if you want a walkthrough of how to restore a SharePoint SSP Admin site one can be found here:http://blog.tylerholmes.com/2008/03/restoring-shared-service-provider-admin.html

Hello All, I am facing Error with Event ID:5290 ; Message: "There is no administration site associated with the Shared Services Provider ExtranetSSP." in MOSS 2007 Farm. I wanted to bring SSP which is in PROD Farm to my test environment. Pls note all other sites of PROD have been restored successfully in test Farm. I created a New SSP in my test environment and to the web application hosting the SSP I added (stsadm -o addcontentdb) Content DB of SSP hosting web app from PRODU Farm. I can see 1 site collection being listed in my test farm under SSP Hosting web app, which is as expected. But from Quick launch bar of Central Admin under SSP section I cannot click on SSP created. if i use the URL, say, http://server:3000/ssp/admin i get into SSP Administration links but while trying to configure user profile or search i get another error " This page is accessible only from an SSP admin site. " Hmm Help! Help! Naveed.DG SharePoint Administrator "Vote As Helpful" If it helps!!

Dear All, I am glad to say that I resolved the errors I have mentioned above. I used "stsadm -o editssp" and added the SSP Administration site i.e http://server:3000/ssp/admin ..command is like this; Hope this helps some one. Also, some one from Microsoft can mark this as answer, if convinced :) and give me some credits :) :) Thanks. stsdm.exe -o editssp -title "SSPName" sspadminsite http://server:3000/ssp/admin Naveed.DG SharePoint Administrator "Vote As Helpful" If it helps!!
