Share one list between parent and subsites with multiple views
I have one parent site and 9 subsites. On the parent site I have a Point of Contact (POC)list that I would like to have displayed on each subsite with the related information. I can manage the views with function or role fields, but I cannot figure out how to get the subsite to pull the parent site into a web part. It seem a bit crazy to try to maintain 10 POC lists. I've been able to pull a set view into a web part, but not a customized, different per site view. Some examples of this are a web part with leadership for an organization, another with the site owners. Each of these would be slightly different on each site, but ideally maintained on one list.I am not exactly sure how to tell which version of SharePoint I am using. When I go to help I see SharePoint Server 2007 and in settings I see: Version: 12.0.0.6510.Thanks for your help.~Jon

So when you edit a page, let's say any of the sub pages on your choose Edit -> Modify Shared Web Part -> In the web part choose -> Look a the 1st item "Selected View, do you have Edit the current view? This would allow you to create a view just for this page the web parts on. If you expand Advaned there is a Title URL, that can remain the same (pointing to you primary list - Note make she the correct path is there, meaning if you're in a sub site you update the path. Example top level list http://home/list/ subsite might be http://home/subsite/ but make sure that you point back to the master list for all. Does that Edit current view work for you? FYI SharePoint Server 2007 is the paid for server product. and this is the patch number you're on. 12.0.0.6510 MOSS 20071 or WSS 3.0 SP2 + June 09 cumulative Update (KB971538 + KB971537 )Kris Wagner, MCITP, MCTS Twitter @sharepointkris Blog: http://sharepointkris.com

The edit view works, but it currently shows the POC List I created for that subsite. When I add the web part I cannot find the POC list from the parent site anywhere to pull data from. If I was able to link to that I am pretty sure I could manage the view part.If I change the Title and URL section in advanced that only changes where people are directed if they click on the title, it doesn't change the source for that web part. :(I asked for assistance within my organization and community of site owners (there are lots of site owners in my organization) and the best help I could get was a web content viewer script that would more or less take a specific view and insert it ascontent. This is OK for 1 subsite, but if I change the same view for another subsite it changes the first... does that make sense? On the parent site I can throw up the POC list as a web part all over the place and customize each web part with its own view sorting by whatever I want. The main issue I have is locating the POC list in the insert web part on a sub site.

Try this... It was really helpful for me... the answer is in the SharePoint Designer 2007 right hand toolbox. In the "data source library" tab (it is displayed when you go to the menu item Data View > Insert Dataview) minimize the "current site" tree and on the bottom of the toolbox there is the "Connect to another library..." link. The rest is simple. It was right there but I didn't see it Good luck Raz Moderator Note: NEVER propose your own posts as answers.
