Share Point for ERP development
Hi, We are in a process of evaluating SharePoint as an option for developing our ERP system for our organisation which already is developed in ASP.Net Technology with SQL server as its backend. It will be very helpful to get your comments and suggestions on the following points: 1. How far Share point is used to develop ERP systems or Applications for Transportation industry in particular. 2. Does Share Point applications run well on client machines having Linux OS or there is some conflict of components and if the web site/Application behaves undesirably. 3. Is there a ready functionality available or we need to program for A) Auto-complete for textbox B) Text Change event c) Add row functionality for a gridview control as in ASP.Net. Awaiting your valuable comments and suggestions. Nayanjit Mane

Hi, 1. (Is SharePoint the right platform for ERP systems) http://stackoverflow.com/questions/491542/is-sharepoint-the-right-platform-for-large-erp-applications 2. SharePoint applications for Client Site OS ( Unix/Linux) http://www.milesconsultingcorp.com/SharePoint-2010-Browser-Compatibility.aspx 3. SharePoint is Microsoft product so it contains server controls that come under .Net framework 3.5 (user control , aspx page etc.) No, there is no already available functionality like auto complete as you mentioned in Point A) as I mentioned all 3.5 controls available in SharePoint 2010 Regards Basant Pandey

Thank you Mr.Basant Pandey. It was a great help. So effectively Share Point is still NOT widely used for data rich applications or applications that handle great amount of data as it does not provide the same look and feel and flexibility as compared to a ASP.Net application. Since the components are available in Share Point as in .Net do u still feel it is not advisable to develop an application mapping the activities for a transportation business ??
