SharePoint site exposing mailing list data to the web
Hi All,
I have a client that has created a mailing list on an internet SharePoint site. The mailing list consist of a variety of personal info like name, phone, email etc. A customer emailed them recently and informed them that the mailing list data
shows up when the person does a google search. After doing some testing I'm seeing the same result that anyone that has added data to this mailing list is exposing their information to the web. We have since turned the mailing list off but they
would like to setup security so this never happens again.
Can anyone give me direction on what changes would be needed to prevent list information to be exposed to the web? Also is there any way to update the current list to fix this issue for exiting customers that entered their information. I'm sure
the folks that have added their information would appreciate it if we could eliminate it from google and any other search engine.
Thanks for your help.Donald R. Landry

Thanks Rahul,
So basically the culprit is the sharepoint crawler process. So if I do whats indicated on the link you sent that would mean that anyone trying to search the site even for other info would not be able to see it correct? Can you set this crawler
parameter for a specific list or does it need to be for the whole site?
Another thought I had was since this site is their web portal I could scrape the mailing list data out via ssis and move it somewhere else maybe to their intranet site.
The solution I'd like to have is for customers to search everything else but that list
Any ideas?
