SharePoint not authenticating behind reverse proxy
Hi everyone,
I am trying to set up MOSS 2007 behind a reverse proxy where the URL would be in the following format:
http://sub.domain.com/sharepoint
When I try to set up the AAM, SharePoint gives me an error if I add /sharepoint to the end of the URL. When I try to access SharePoint through the reverse proxy, I can see the request hitting the SharePoint server, but it returns HTTP/1.1
401 Access denied, even if I enter a valid user. I expect to see this behavior when the AAM is incorrect but in this case I can't see to set it to what the reverse proxy is sending the requests through as. Does anyone know of the correct configuration
for this scenario?

The request is coming through port 80, and in the IIS logi get a 401 1 error but I can't see what the request URL is. The IP for the server is correct in the Log. I am sure this has something to do with SharePoint because if I purposefully
break the site by putting invalid charachters in the web config, I get an asp.net error. I can also see the requests coming in through IIS.

You cannot get the URL for the request if you do not keep
cs-host field in IIS log;
With the Host header, IP address and Port combination, you should be able to find the unique SharePoint web application zone in SharePoint Central Administration->Operations->Alternative
Access Mapping;
Then, you can check the authentication setting for the corresponding web application zone in SharePoint Central Administration->Application Management->Authentication
Providers.
Make sure that the setting in IIS is in sync with setting in SharePoint configuration, for detail, please read
