SharePoint locking out users on Cancel
Our AD policy locks out users after x number of wrong attempts. We have an Excel file A that opens another Excel file B that's located on SharePoint. Because the Excel file A is located on an auto-logon account that does not have access to the SharePoint site, the user gets prompted with a user logon window (so far so good). If the user enters their correct credentials, the Excel file B opens up fine. If the user enters a wrong password for their account, the log on window re-prompts the user and the counter of wrong attempts increments by one (so far so good). However, if the user then clicks on Cancel (they have not cleared their username), the log on attempt still gets sent, so the the counter of wrong attempts continues to increment until it reaches x number of failures and then the user is locked out! Why is this happening? When the user clicks on Cancel the log on prompt should cancel period and not resend the log on. Any explanations would greatly be appreciated.

Hi, Check if there's any type of synchronisation going on the user's pc. If user is using windows XP double click the My computer icon select Tools, I believe is synchronise, click on the advance button and see if there's anything inside the box with a check mark on it.. I had a similar issue with a user every time he reboots his pc his account will get locked we find out that some how the sycronize option got enable and was synchronising with a share folder and was causing the account to lock. Pls keep us updated about outcomes. Best Regards, Vivek
