I have Sharepoint 2010 env(multifarm) , I need to have same content in newly created sharepoint 2010 env(multifarm). Both these farms are running same sharepoint version but have different multifarm architecture. I want to do farm back up and then restore to new farm. I am planning to do content+config back and then overwrite it in new environment(using central admin backup restore).For safety purpose i will do a farm backup of new env and keep the copy safe in case I fail with restore in new farm Will this work? . Need your help on this. Please suggest a good approach.

Will you please describe the farm topology of the farms? When you say they are "multifarm" do you mean you have two or more farms you wish to replicate? The SharePoint full farm backup and restore is the primary supported method for making a replica of an existing farm. The high-level approach is: Full farm backup of source farmProvision hardware in new farmInstall software in new farm (Windows, SQL, SharePoint, etc)Configure a new farm, that is, run the configuration wizard and join all servers to the farm. Do not perform any further configuration.Deploy customizations such as farm solutions (.wsp)Restore backup from source farm to new farmVerify and test new farm to ensure it meets your needs. Thanks Jason. The source farm is having 2 servers . one of which is the data base server and 2nd server is web plus app server. But in target farm i have 5 servers i.e. 2 WFE's ,2 App servers and one DB server. The target farm is not formed yet. I need to create it. After which I need to move 6 web applications from from source farm to target farm. Also to mention that the new farm will be load balanced. What will be the steps of doing this systematically?SPRavi
