SharePoint consistently prompting for user credentials
Hi GuysI hope you are well. I have the following issue. Sharepoint keeps on prompting for user crendentials on the server where it was installed. Preventing me from navigating and implementing my site collection. On the other hand, when a client visit the site on his/her machine it does not happen and the user is able to navigate the site without any prompting(window pop up log in) for credentials. I have seen several articles on the internet as will post below but none of these articles helped me tackle the issue. Articles related to the issue and none of them tackle it!http://www.paulliebrand.com/2008/04/02/sharepoint-consistently-prompting-for-user-credentials/http://sharepointsolutions.blogspot.com/2008/06/how-do-i-make-our-sharepoint-site-stop.htmlhttp://sharepointsolutions.blogspot.com/2008/06/how-do-i-make-our-sharepoint-site-stop_17.htmlRegardsRod rsoares

Hi rsoares, What version is your SharePoint server 2007? Did you install the latest updates? If not, please install the latest updates according to the following link: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/office/sharepointserver/bb735839.aspx which authentication method did you use? NTLM or others? Did you disable loopback on your SharePoint server? if not, follow http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896861 to disable it. For more information about this issue, please refer to the following article: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointadmin/thread/460bced3-d1c9-41d4-b538-7eef9d8faa96 Hope this helps. Hi,I believe you are trying to browse the sharepoint application from the server itself. I would like you to see if you have added the sharepoint URL into trusted sites. Ask Rock has said to see if you have disabled loopback on the sharepoint server.. which IE version are you using? There is an option of IE in which enhanced security is enabled. If so, then disable it and try browsing it again. Hope this helps....

One potential quick fix...if you are not on the server, have IE 8, are using NTLM and TRUST this farm, add it to your local intranet zone in IE. Some security settings will block IE from automatically sending your credential info to the web application (this is by design), putting it into your local intranet zone will allow this but it also gives that particular site a lot of trust on your box so IF you trust it, then this will work.alternate:One other thing I should have mentioned...do you have any custom branding on ths site that may pull image, css, javascript, or any other files from locations not in the portal? I have had clients to this and point ot locations where some folks did not have rights to read. All it takes is 1 image embedded on your master page to cause this and you will get prompted when IE makes the call to get that image.
