SharePoint connect to Oracle Database
We are running a SharePoint 2007 farm and we have staff that want to use a dataview to connect to an Oracle Database as well as a SQL database. The SLQ connection worked fine. When we try an Oracle Connection using a custom connection string we recieve an error retriving the list of databases. Some of the information I have read mentions installing the Oracle Client on the SP Web Front End servers and others do not. Is there a way to connect to an Oracle database without installing the Oracle Cleint on the SP Web Front End servers? I've read about using BDC, but that seems to involve having the Oracle.dll in the GAC which I believe would require the Oracle client to be installed.

I think you can do it in 2 steps. First import required Oracle DB to sharepoint list. second use DataView WebPart to connect SharePoint List to OracleDB List. chek the following link. http://lightningtools.com/blog/archive/2010/03/04/how-to-connect-sharepoint-bdc-to-oracle-through-tns.aspxasim MCTS SharePoint 2007 -WSS 3.0

You might want to consider writing a wcf service that exposes read/write oracle data and deploy the service on an application server, consume this service via BDCMicrosoft Certified Master | SharePoint 2007 Blog
