SharePoint asks for login way too much
Is there a way to reduce the amount of times I need to enter my login information to SharePoint. I have to enter it twice when I first open it, then I have to enter it twice to open a form in the document library. Then I have to enter it three times to re-submit the form. It is a hassle to me, and it is a hassle to my coworkers, as well. Even if I check the box to "remember my credentials" the dialog box still comes up. Any solutions? EDIT: Sorry, I meant to put this into the SharePoint 2007 section. I am really sorry about this. Can an admin move it? Or should I repost it?

If your using IE you can follow these steps. Click on tools in IE. Click Internet Options. Click on the Security Tab. Click Trusted Sites. Now click on the Sites button and add your SharePoint Site. Once you have added your site click the custom level button under the security section. At the very bottom under User Authentication, select the option that says Automatic logon with current username and password. This should automatically sign you in with your current Windows/Active Directory credentials.-Chris

That does work completely for the Sharepoint website. However, everyone is prompted, sometimes twice, if we try to open or save a document from the SharePoint website. Is there an easy fix for this, too?

I tried the hotfix here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943280 But unfortunately that did not fix the problem for me.

I've come across a similiar problem in Sharepoint. The problem for me was due to images on the sharepoint site were located in a spot the user did not have permissions to. Once the permissions were changed or images moved the problem went away. Hope that helps.

Hi Donnie, What Client OS, Office Version and SharePoint version are you using? Have you set your proxy setting to automatically detect. If the Automatically detect settings option is not enabled, any autoconfiguration script that is defined will not be processed. WinHTTP will not identify the WebDAV site as a local intranet site. Therefore, WinHTTP will send out a request without user credentials, and you will be prompted to type user credentials.. Go to IE7 -> Internet Options -> Connections -> LAN Settings. Behavior 1: Clearing all checkboxes on this dialog will cause the credential prompt. Behavior 2: Automatically detect settings - enabling this option will prevent the prompt if it effectively enables a proxy server and enables bypassing the proxy for local addresses. Behavior 3: Use a proxy server - enabling a proxy server in conjunction with enabling "Bypass proxy server for local addresses" will prevent the credential prompt. Also, add your site if your using an FQDN as the URL, any site with a dot in the URL to your Local Intranet Zone NOT the Trusted Zone, Microsoft treats any site with a dot in the URL as being in the Internet Zone. By adding to the URL to the Local Intranet Zone and setting the Automatically Detect Proxy Server settings to bypass for loacl addresses you should be able to resolve the multiple authentication requests http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941853 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941890 -IvanIvan Sanders My LinkedIn Profile, My Blog, @iasanders.

Do you have any network load balancing going on? What does you farm look like (1,2,3,4 Serers?) A Network Load Balancer could be an F5 Big IE or Microsoft ISA. With an F5 you must setup off load and pass auth to and from ad and SharePoint.. Look at Ivan's post and the others good but I'm just thinking bigger network items.Kris Wagner, MCITP, MCTS Twitter @sharepointkris Blog: http://www.sharepointkris.com/blog
