SharePoint and pdf files
I have a medium size MOSS 2007 deployment on http://Myserver:100. this app has >200 collections with over 100,000 documents in several hundred libraries. I recently created another app on :200. I uploaded a few .pdf files to a library in this space. If I try to open these files I get an "The document cannot be opened for editing. A WSS compatible application cannot be found." I have thousands of pdf's on the other app and have no issues opening any of these files. I do not remember ever having to tweak SharePoint to recognize this file type. It would seem it is a setting at the Web app level, but i haven't been able to find where to change the setting. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks JL

PDF files are not supported by sharepoint as they can be used to view only by means of sp-site. As the office, excel as well as powerpoint belongs to Microsoft office product and that's why they are supported becuase office integrates with the sharepoint directly and not the adobe's PDF In terms of other extenions, you can store them on your sp-site but in read only mode as you will not get the best performance Please let us know if you any queries or questions regarding the same Regards, Pratik Vyas | SharePoint Consultant |
