SharePoint Windows Services (i.e. Timer Service, Search Service) keep stopping and require the service account password re-entering
Hi allThis is a strange one thats been bothering me for some time, but I've never got around to really sorting it out. I'm running MOSS enterprise, of a 64bit 2008 server, with a2008 sql server. To keep it brief - every now and then all of the sharepoint services (like the search service, timer service, admin service etc) just stop. When I go into the windows services console to restart them they woint restart until I go in and re-enter the service account password. The really weird thing is that if I re-enter the password for one of the services, then all of the others will re-start without me needing to re-enter the password? Its really strange, and I dont know where to start?!RegardsMattNote: I can confirm that this only happens after the server is rebooted

I dont believe the passwords have changed since installation, but I'll look at changing the password and give the stsadm commands a go this afternoon. It normally happens when the server is rebooted - I thought this morning that it had just happened by itself, but it turns out that one of our admins had rebooted the server last night. So to clarify, this only happens when we reboot the server.Matt

Hi Matt, What is your MOSS server’s version? Can you open SharePoint site after you encountered the issue? Make sure you can connect to your SQL server and your accounts have sufficient permission. For more information about Office SharePoint Server Security Account Requirements, please refer to (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=92883&clcid=0x409). Try to run SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard on your problematic server, and then check the effect. If the above steps does not work, then try the following steps as below: 1. Reboot your SQL Server. 2. Reboot the remaining servers in the SharePoint farm. 3. Run these scripts exactly as instructed, even if you did not change the passwords, just run it to remind SharePoint what the passwords were in the first place. How to change service accounts and service account passwords in SharePoint Server 2007 and in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/934838/en-us Hope this helps.
