SharePoint WebDav taken over SMB share access
I have some standard SMB network shares hosted on my SharePoint server and going to "\\servername" used to show me those shares. All of a sudden now they've disappeared and been replaced by what turns out to be SharePoint WebDav shares (the shares are called things like "Shared Documents" and "_catalogs") Oddly if I use "\\ip.address.of.server" I get the normal SMB shares but my users will not know how to do this, and this completely defies the point of DNS anyway. I do not want this behaviour and did not ask for it to happen. Does anyone know how to stop SharePoint WebDav from taking over from the normal SMB share list?

We had similar problem, though in our case it was related to specific clients only. I.e., most client PCs would see an SMB share, but a few would see an WebDAV share. In our case, also putting the IP address made all of them see the SMB share. It turned out that enabling "Netbios-helper" on the network stack of the client PCs solved the problem. Raul.
