SharePoint Site collection migration

Hello

My Site collection is running on SP 2010 on my private server.

I also have SP 2013 license on Microsoft office 365 cloud.

I have a few questions please:

1. Would it be possible to migrate my current site collection running on SP 2010 to MS SP 2013 cloud? Will it run properly?

2. Can MS provide me SP 2010 environment on their Office 365 cloud?

3. Can I sync my private SP 2010 server with MS cloud sever assuming they are both running the same site collection?

4 Can I use my SP 2010 site collection backup to be propagated into the MS SP 2013 cloud? If not will that work on a SP 2010 cloud?

Hope you can help

Many thanks

Yacov

1. Maybe, it depends on your site collection and the customisations you've applied.

2. No, Microsoft only use the latest version of applications for it's cloud solutions, you'd have to upgrade to 2013.

3. N/A

4. Perhaps, see 1.

The short version is that you'd need to upgrade to 2013 as part of the move to the cloud.

1. You can't migrate your on-premise content to Office 365 SharePoint using standard SharePoint migration way - content database attach.

2. No, the current version of SharePoint used in Office 365 is 2013

3. No, because 2

4. No, because 1

Deal all

Thanks a lot for your help.

I understand I need to perform an upgrade to SP 2013

Following the upgrade to SP 2013 I would like to backup my work.

Will I be able to perform a good backup so that I will be able to restore it in full into Office 365?

In other words in case of a disaster what backup would I need in order to restore my work in full on another SP 2013 platform?

Many thanks

To migrate your Site Collection from SP 2010 to Office 365 / SP 2013 with permitted templates and workflows, you can use a 3rd party tool - XPlica for SharePoint - http://www.vyapin.com/products/sharepoint-to-sharepoint/xplica/sharepoint-migration-tools-and-software offered by Vyapin Software Systems.
