SharePoint Services Service Pack 3 Custom Data View and Edit in Datasheet
We unfortunately were not paying attention and theSharePoint Services Service Pack 3 was installed automatically Wednesday morning the 19th. We do not have an imageofserver to roll back to and the SP cannot be uninstalled. Does anyone have a solution to these problems: 1 - When users access our Intranet via SSL externally and attempt to look at a page with aCustom Data View of a list or DL from a different site theyget this error: "Unable to display this Web Part. To troubleshoot the problem, open this Web page in a Windows SharePoint Services-compatible HTML editor such as FrontPage. If the problem persists, contact your Web server administrator." When users try to access theses same pages internally on the network they just get denied access to those pages. I have to mention it only happens on pageswith aCustom Data View of a list or DL from a different site. Addtionallywhen our 3 SPS and WSS administratorsview these pages internally everything is fine and the DataViewWeb Parts render perfectly so we think this is some sort of permissions issue possibly. 2 - No user can use the Edit in Datasheet view feature on lists. Whent the 'Edit in Datasheet View'button is clicked the Datasheet control appears to load however the page is redirected back to the default Stand viewin every case. We have a ticket with MS; howeverthey are dragging their feet andhas been over 48 hrs since we submitted the ticket.

Hi, Sorry you ran into trouble. I think you have taken the correct course of action in contacting support about this though. The SharePoint team will be your best bet for getting resolution. If you haven't done so already, you might try posting this on the Sharepoint newsgroups (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/community/newsgroups/server/sharepoint.mspx). -Dennis

On Friday Octovber 5th I fully patched all of our SharePoint Servers... this included WSS 2.0 SP3 as well as Windows 2003 SP2. Now I have the issue where none of my users can use the "Edit in Datasheet" featue on any lists... I would like to know what Microsoft had to say about this error. Thanks Derek

Moving to a SharePoint forum to make sure the right people get a chance to see the question. Robert.

For a solution look up: http://www.mg2.de/sharepoint-2003/service-pack-3/ It's in German but there is a English translation down the page. Basically just: Open the file ows.js (Path: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\60\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS\1033) and search for the Method PortalPinToMyPage. After this insert following javascript code:function RenderActiveX(str){document.write(str);} Thats it. Dont forget to make an iisreset and refresh your browser after saving the file Worked for me!
