SharePoint Services 3.0 with SP2 installation hangs/does not start
Hi I'm trying to install SharePoint Services 3.0 with SP2 (32 bit) on an Windows Server 2003 (SP2) The installation starts and I choose to install with the web farm configuration. The screen with the progress bar comes up and then nothing happens it just stays there not doing a damn thing :) The setup is not crashing and I can move the window and cancel the setup just fine. It simply does not start. There are no errors in the eventlog at all. I have tried several times, the longest it just sat there for over an hour before I closed it. Can anyone shed some light on this? -- Christian

Hard to say what is wrong. I suggest you dowanload http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx and try to figure out why it freezing. Another suggestion try to install WSS on fresh OS. Oleg

Thank you Oleg, the sysinternals tool led me to the installer log files where I found the following. "Error: Failed to install product: C:\Program Files\MSECache\wssv3\WSS.en-us\wssmui.MSI ErrorCode: 1618(0x652). The installation appears to have failed because another MSI operation was taking place. Retrying... Executing chained package: wssmui.en-us" It seems to just retry indefinately, I forgot to close the installer on friday, resulting in a 300+ MB log file ;) I'll try a restart again and see if that helps.. -- Christian
