SharePoint Services 3.0 site: can't get mail alerts (SMTP Server)
Dear Team, I am requesting to you to help me to solve the problems about sharepoint services 3.0. I am working with small organisation as a system admin, I am totally new about sharepoint. Before few days, I installed sharepoint services 3.0 on my windows server 2003 STD R2 successfully, Bydefault site was also created. I also setup SMTP Server in sharepoint service, but I don't gate any alerts or welcome message to my mailbox. my Company mail server is Linux base i.e Qmail, and mail domain is registered as "mail.sortimat.in" and local IP is 192.168.1.100 for mail server and my AD domain is "sortimatindlocal.in" i.e. means My mailserver and AD Domain are configured on separate domain. How to configure WSS3.0 outbound smtp with My Qmail mailserver for alerts.? Please reply. Kiran Wagh System Admin Kiran W. System Admin, MCSA

Hello Kiran, In Central Administration you'll find at the tab "Operations": * Configure outgoing e-mail settings Define the settings appropriate to your environment. Please make sure, that your mail server accepts & relays e-mails from your SharePoint Server * Configure incoming e-mail settings Here you can enable & configure receiving e-mails into your SharePoint system. Please be aware that you'll need the SMTP-Server installed & configured on your SharePoint server! BR,J

Dear JHohensinn, Thanks for your Suggestion and guides about SMTP. Today, I called to my Mailserver support and asked him about IP Relation between Sharepoint server & linux mail server. He add the Share point server IP Address to mail server. And within a minute alerts get start to outlook mailbox. Really I am very happy. Thanks really Thanks. Kiran W. System Admin, MCSA
