SharePoint Server 2010 vs SharePoint Server 2010 for Internet SItes
Hi
I am bit confused over the two licenses, SharePoint Server 2010 and SharePoint Server 2010 for Internet sites.
If we enable anonymous access for our web site developed with SharePoint Server 2010 then it becomes an internet site and this is not illegal. Right?
Then why should we purchase license for SharePoint Server 2010 for Internet sites.
I am very confused over this.
Please reply.
Thanks

For SharePoint 2010 licensing detials, check out
http://sharepoint.microsoft.com/en-us/buy/pages/licensing-details.aspx
If you enable anonymous access, then you cannot identify the external users and therefore require the SharePoint Server 2010 for internet sites for every server part of the farm.
You do not need this license if every user that is accessing your website can be authenticated and therefore identified. In that case you would only need SharePoint Server 2010 licenses and a Standard CAL for every user visiting your site. An additional
Enetrpirse CAL would be required if you use Enterprie features in your sites.Dirk Van den Berghe
