SharePoint PowerShell with SharePoint multi-factor authentication

Hi All,

Is it possible to setup PowerShell "SharePoint Online Management Shell" to work with SharePoint multi-factor authentication? So if I use a command like
    Connect-SPOService -Url https://site-admin.sharepoint.com/ -credential users@domain.com
you also need addition authentication.

I need to connect to the company SP online site using different company computers. I am always worried the computer I am using might have hidden spyware or a virus on. Using PowerShell with SharePoint multi-factor authentication would make the connection more secure. Even if someone was able to get the App Password they would also need access to my mobile for the text password (multi-factor authentication)

I hope you can help.

Many thanks
CEStar

Hi CEStar,

As I understand, you want to setup PowerShell "SharePoint Online Management Shell" to work with SharePoint multi-factor authentication in SharePoint online.

The Authentication of a PowerShell session only accepts a user name and password. And application passwords cannot be used to authenticate a PowerShell session. So I suppose it is not possible to setup PowerShell "SharePoint Online Management Shell" to work with SharePoint multi-factor authentication. For more detailed information, you could refer to the article below.

The article below is about Unable to Administer Office 365 Using PowerShell with Multi-Factor Authentication.

Do you think a future addition of PowerShell ISE will have Office 365 Multi-Factor Authentication capabilities?

Hi CEStar,

I do not suppose it will add the Office 365 Multi-Factor Authentication capabilities in PowerShell.

Because there are many limitations in the PowerShell.
