Hi I have a Windows Sharepoint Services 3.0 running with MS SQL 2005. I have a problem in that the DB size is 270GB. Sharepoint Usage Summary says the content size used is 76GB. I also downloaded a utility to show me the invdivual size of the sites and when totaled up, they amount to 76GB. The name of the utility is SPUsedSpaceInformation. When going to properties on the database itself, it shows the DB as 330GB with 60GB free space. My questions are: 1. Does sharepoint usage summary or even this tool that I downloaded show all the space sharpeoint content is using 2. How can I find the missing 194B and remove it? Thanks in Advanced

Recycle bin Audit trail Versioning (Not 100% sure but I think this is also not counted) Usage summary So if you have a lot of data in any of these tables, they will account for the additional sizes. Ive cleared recylce bin How can I find out if versioning is counted? I'm pretty sure is it counted because If I use explorer view, I can see all the sub sites and their document libraries. These libraries only show the latest files. If I check the size of them there, it shows 10GB in total. Im guessing the 76GB then includes all versioning. The Audit trail you are referrgin to, is that version control or is that a seperate thing?

Im refering to the MDF because I can truncate the LDF without any problems

I'm Not sure if this might help... but i tried to copy the DB (MDF) file to another location and after about 30%, I get a read error from the file. Is it possible the MDF file is damaged? If so, how can I repair it? The other option I have is to move my site collection to another DB, whats the process for this? I know how to export using stsadm but it doesnt export all versions of documents. Im looking for something that can then transfer my site collection plus all sub sites plus all versions of documents etc Thanks

By Audit Trail I was referring to the Site Collection Audit settings that is available under Site Actions --> Site collection audit settings --> Configure Audit Settings. This has the potential to grow very large over a brief period of time and is not counted in the report. The other thing is the Usage analysis processing data which is not counted. I dont actually have that menu or setting.... under my Site actions, there is just Create, Edit page and Site settings. After trying a few things last night, I found the following errors: When copying the MDF to another location, it gives a read error after 20%. Could there be a problem with the MDF or is this because I am trying to copy a 330GB file?

Hi Hazardr, Content database store all site content, site documents, such as files in document libraries, list data; Web Part properties; and user names and rights. But you can also find that are some other table in the content database, like Event Log. And it would also do some duplicate for a site collection. So it would larger than a Site Collection itself. You should better not delete LDF file, otherwise part of data would get lose occasionally. I decided to backup my sharepoint and restore it to a test server. I then moved the site collection to another DB and the DB size was still the same (312GB). In sharepoint, it reported usage as being 90GB. I then started deleting all sites and workspaces and coument libraries. I now have no sites besides the main site with absolutely nothing in it and the DB size only got reduced by 100GB... its not sitting on 220GB... where is all this space coming from? I have checked both normal and Admin recylce bin and there is nothing. Any ideas as to where the space came from?
