The link to the aspx returns "Service Unavailable". I am also interested in the error message "The document could not be opened for editing. A Windows SharePoint compatible application could not be found to edit the document." Bernard R

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/833714?p=1 We've found it works well to install the SharePoint services support piece on the client machine that is having issues.

Thank you for the reply. I'm trying to follow the steps needed to allow a third party document type to be created or edited from SharePoint ( see http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa978104.aspx - How to: Add a Document Template, File Type, and Editing Application to a Site Definition). The error message is one of the stumbling blocks, since I don't know what it's checking for. Is there an example or other documentation that describes writing and using an OpenDocuments control other than the MSDN OpenDocuments Control topic (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms454230.aspx)?
