SharePoint Document Library and File properties not matching up with Windows Explorer
Background: We have Office 2003 and 2007 (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) documents uploaded into a SharePoint 2007 Document library. The document library had columns added to apply metadata such as a category choice column (01 - Preliminary, 02 - Introduction...) When opening the document and navigating to the file properties (Windows > Prepare > Properties) the selected Category classification is appearing correctly and all options are available. This works both when opening from SharePoint and when opening the file after it was downloaded to a Network Drive. Problem: I am archiving the documents from SharePoint 2007 to a Network Drive and I would like to add the column in Windows explorer to show the category and allow users to select 'arrange icons by' > 'Category' and show in groups so that they have a similar experience viewing the files through explorer as they did in the SharePoint Library (with grouping active). The Category that SharePoint set the properties to appears to be a custom property and not the same "Category" property that is recognized by Windows Explorer. Any idea how to make it so that Windows Explorer is using the same file properties as those being set by SharePoint so that I can group these? P.S. - If I right click on the file in the Network drive and pull up properties, I can go to the custom tab and see what looks like all the SharePoint column metadata properties; but when I go to the summary tab only the Title is populated. Thanks!

Additional Insight: I see if I Add from Existing site columns and us the Category (Group: Core Document Columns) then it looks like it applies the value in the correct file property for Category. So, I guess I would like to tie a cusomt column to this as my categories are not the same across all document libraries and it doesn't look like I can edit the original site column anyway...
