SharePoint Designer Workflow Error: The server could not complete your request

Hello,

I've migrated from SharePoint 2010 to SharePoint 2013 using Content Database association and then visual upgrade.

Everything has come along nicely, however, it was giving error on a SharePoint designer's task form which was developed on InfoPath designer and using webservice to get some data.

Therefore, I opened that task form in InfoPath, made changes and published it. However, I need to re-publish the workflow to enable those task form changes. When I try to publish the workflow then I get following error

"The server could not complete your request".

I created another workflow in the same list and can publish it as well. So, it means that it is only creating problem for migrated workflows instead of all workflows.

Any idea?

Thanks!

Hi,

According to your description, my understanding is that you are unable to republish Designer workflow.

Please create a same workflow in the same list and test whether the error occurs.

Could you please provide corresponding logs in ULS log?

An even better way to get the real SharePoint error from the ULS logs:

Please have a try to enable anonymous authentication for the SharePoint web application in IIS.

Feel freely to reply your test and logs here.

Hi Sohaib- do you have both SP Designer 2010 & 2013 installed? If so, that can cause issues. You should uninstall 2010 and only use 2013.

I've created another workflow and it seems like after it creates publishing problem if i add any approval action. Sometimes, it allows to publish workflow but if i publish the workflow more than once then i starts giving error due to approval action available in the workflow. When i remove the workflow approval action then I would be able to publish the workflow again.

Hi Sohaib Khan,

How did you configure approval action in workflow? Could you please provide more details about the workflow steps for us to reproduce your issue?

And check if there are any errors (like logical errors) about approval action in workflow.
