SharePoint DB migration

Hi All,

I have SP 2010 farm (A) running with SQL 2005 (B) using service pack 2.

SharePoint & SQL both are running on separate machines A & B.

Now I need to migrate from SQL 2005 to SQL 2012 (C) so I have taken backups of all DB from SQL 2005 and restored on SQL 2012 using backup & restore approach. Now if run SharePoint product wizard to disconnect existing SQL  2005 (B) and run again to join using exiting farm join option and select SQL 2012 (C)

Is there any issue on above approach ?

Is the new SQL server using the same name as the old SQL server?

Here you have a complete procedure that covers your scenario

Hi Anupam,

When using SQL 2005, did you use SQL alias for specifying SQL Server to SharePoint?

My two cents :) -  I do not see a problem with above approach. However, please try to use SQL alias for SQL Server 2012 server. This makes life easier if we want to change Database Server.

Thanks,

Ved
