SharePoint Custom List Attachment to Store URL and Not a File
I need to ust the attachment column for a list, but I want to store the URL NOT the attached file. I could use a Link Column type, but doesn't have the browse utility that the attachement column has. Any ideas? I would like to store the URL and not the FILE with the browse utility

I don't know of a way to store just the URL, and not the file, and I doubt it can be overridden. Granted, a browse button SHOULD have been included, and shame on them for not. But, given the fact that you're only trying to overcome a browse button, you can encourage the user to open another browser or explorer window to find the desired file, and copy and paste the URL into the box. {Windows Key} + E opens a new Windows Explorer instance. {Ctrl} + T open a new IE tab {Ctrl} + N open a new IE browser instance Add those instructions to the description. Hi, I’m afraid that this cannot be achieved in the admin. My suggestion is that you just store the URL in the Links item, or you can design in the SPD 2007. Map the attachment item to the title item in the list new item selection. To achieve this, you must edit in the code view. And the following links might give you a hand http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint-server-help/form-web-part-HA010024050.aspx http://www.psspug.org/SharePoint%20Conference%202008/Hands%20On%20Labs/Microsoft%20Office%20SharePoint%20Designer%202007%20-%20Data%20Form%20Web%20Part%20-%20HOL481.doc. Hope this would help!
