SharePoint Analytics - Most Popular Items is not available for Custom List

I am able to see Most Popular Items option for document library but not able to find this option for list under ribbon. On Click of this button it redirects to http://siteName/_layoutstopreport.aspx?List={ListID}

So I tried to pass Custom List Id but it did not return any results.  After registering the View Item event using PowerShell I can get the results but still this option is missing under ribbon for Lists. Using URL I can get the Most Popular Items for list but surprisingly Ever and Recent column are zero for all the items.

Somewhere I have read that If Document is opened using Office Web App then only the view count would increase, but I am not sure why it's not increasing for Custom List?

Any help would be highly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Although TechNet says it can be found on Lists/Items too (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj715890.aspx), I cannot find/activate it either on our portals! Anyone has an idea?

Hi Vimlesh,

I suggest checking out CardioLog Analytics as a possible solution for you to create reports not only on most popular items, but also on inactive items, page load time, peak hours, active pages, unique views, length of visits, and much more.

Hope this helps. :)

According to this article, Popularity reports are only available for Document Libraries and Product Catalog lists. However, I have a simple custom list on my Office 365 site and I see the "Most Popular Items" in the ribbon and it works fine. Yet, when I check other lists, it does not appear in the ribbon at all. I'm not certain why this is. Perhaps it is based on the activity in the list since, according to that article, the page would show activity over the past 14 days by default.
