SharePoint 3.0 Central Administration Error
When i try to Access SharePoint 3.0 Central Administration i get a page that comes up and simply reads, "Error" and then on another line reads "An Unexpected error has occured."
I have tried rebooting the machine, i have not installed any new software as of late and to be honest, i dont know how long it has been down as i only access this page about 1 or 2 times a month.
i have read through the forums and haven't found anything that describes the problem i am having.
My System is MS SBS 2008 with basic settings (nothing special)
everything else works (standard sharepoint access, exchange, remote web workplace ... suchforth)
thanks for any help!

this error msg will not help us at all, why not you turn off the custom error messages, then you will see more meaning full error message.
follow the steps below and then access CA site again. just made these changes into your CA web app's web.config file only.
Navigate to the site directory. Backup web.config. Open web.config. Switch Custom Errors off. Search for “customErrors” and set the value to “Off” instead of “On”.
Enable CallStack. Search for “CallStack” and set the value to “true” instead of “false”.
Save web.config.
hope this will work

I believe this KB article explain all the cause and resolution for the new error. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/942055/en-usi am at SharePoint administrator

Article suggests: Resolution 1: Delete the malformed XML element from the ApplicationHost.config file or from the Web.config file.
I dont understand this, it is showing the error as being the line that was just added from the technomummy site suggestion...or am i misunderstanding this?

Article suggests: Resolution 1
Hi,
That XML element has a mistake:
<add name=”SPXmlAdminContentMapProvider” siteMapFile=”_app_bin/admin.sitemap” type=”Microsoft.SharePoint.Navigation.SPXmlContentMapProvider, Microsoft.SharePoint, Version=12.0.0.0, Culture=neutral,
PublicKeyToken=71e9bce11e9429c” />
Item PublicKeyToken=71e9bce11e9429c
isn’t correct,
its correct form is PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c
I check it and it solved my problem.
