SharePoint 2013 test website is running slow

I am working on a test SharePoint 2013 website and everything is starting to run a lot slower than it used to. Thus I am assuming that I am writing too many records to a custom list file, a workflow log, and a workflow history list files. I do not have any records center setup, any process setup to delete or archive files.

Thus can you tell me what I can do in detail, of how I can make the test website run faster? Is this is possible?

What items should I be looking at?

How slow is slow?

Do some pages load slower than others?

Are you short on resources on either the SharePoint servers or the SQL server? CPU, RAM, Disk IO, Disk Space etc.

The more you can characterise the slowness the more likely we are to be able to narrow down the cause.

I do not know what to look for to see what is causing the problem. Do you have recommendations on what I should look for?

Get a stop watch.

Open your site. Timing how long it takes to load the site.

Then close IE and repeat the process, time that too.

Find some other pages and time how long it takes to open them, if they are significantly more or less then let us know. For each of the pages try closing and re-opening them and again, if there's a difference let us know.

I've already said to look at your server performance counters.

Are you running at the recomended minimum baseline for SharePoint in terms of CPU and RAM?
