SharePoint 2013 on SQL 2008 R2 AND SQL 2012

Hi,

I was just wondering is it was feasible and best practice to run SharePoint on Multiple flavors of SQL Server?

We currently have SP 2013 running on SQL 2008R2, but need to add the BI functionality to SharePoint which requires SQL Server 2012 SP1.  I was wondering if it was possible and best practice to install an instance of SQL 2012 to hold the BI parts and leave the existing SharePoint in 2008 R2.

It is to get around time constraints to upgrade the existing platform.  I know I could do an upgrade of the SQL estate to 2012, just easier to bolt something (BI 2012) than it is to upgrade stuff in our place.  The upgrade will happen, just at a later date.

Thanks

Matt

This isn't the right forum, you've posted in the 2010 forum rather than 2013.

Having said that: There shouldn't be an issue running two versions of SQL for the main content and for the dedicated BI component. Having a dedicated instance of that is far from unusual. I wouldn't say that it's in line with best practice but it is within reasonable boundaries.
