SharePoint 2013 Discussion Board - restrict to plain text input only

I would like to restrict a SharePoint 2013 on site discussion list to plain text input only.

After changing the body column in the Message and Discussion content types as described in the SharePoint Legacy Versions post titled "Discussion Boards - Plain Text" by Marc Anderson, I am left with the "Add a reply" input field displayed at the bottom of the flat.aspx view still operating as a rich text box.

Any ideas how to also restrict this reply input field to plain text?

Hi Victoria,

Thanks for looking into this and for your reply.

I see the same behaviour as you describe, but html tags are displayed in the converted plain text (eg this output: "<p>this is a plain reply with no formatting applied</p>").

Having added styling, a user would expect this to be retained, so the ideal would be to restrict users to plain text input in the first place.

Would it be possible to override the script that adds the reply input field, to apply plain text styling?

Thanks,

Terry

Hi Terry,

To make the output displayed without the html tags, we need to create a custom Discussion board list web part in Topic.aspx page to display the discussion and a common reply box.

Best regards,

Victoria
