SharePoint 2013 DataSheet View Column width
In SharePoint 2010 our users were able to adjust the column width when viewing a List or Library in DataSheet view.   This feature seems to be absent in SharePoint 2013's datasheet view.  The column widths are static, and in many cases, frustratingly narrow for the fields they serve.  Does anyone know of an out of the box solution that would allow column widths to be adjusted by the user?  If not is there a 3rd party solution that includes this functionality?

Can you try to navigate to Library -> Modify View and in the Edit View page set the Style to Basic Table? The view should get set to how it was in SP 2010. Let me know if this is what you needed and if I got the issue correctly.

Thank you for your response.  I tried your proposed solution, but it seems Style options are only available in Standard Views.  I'm working with SP2013's Datasheet View which doesn't have Style options.  The current concern I have with SP2013's Datasheet View versus SP2010's Datasheet View is the column widths are not adjustable by the user as they were in the past.  The client has asked us to make this particular library view as "Excel-like" as possible.  Some of the columns are so narrow that they're displaying 1-2 words before wrapping down.  I'm sure our client will complain if they can't use the interface to widen the columns and improve readability.

Well, are there too many columns in the datasheet view? There are two things that may help you:

1. I tried to create a custom datasheet view on a folder and the columns rendered fine for me. I however was using the default column selection (Type, Name, Modified By, Modified, Created By, Created). The names are pretty large and appear correctly. Maybe reducing the number of columns would help you.

2. Else, create a new view. Create View -> Custom View in Sharepoint Designer and then select custom columns with Type 'Multiple Lines of Text'. This however, wouldn't allow the users to select the column widths but will certainly help in showing up the entire title/name as they appear on the columns.

This is all that comes to my mind at present.

You're absolutely right, there are too many columns in the datasheet.  Unfortunately, this is a business requirement set by users who are accustomed to working with Excel.  They like all their data available and editable in front of them.

It's evident that we've lost a few "Excel-like" features in SP2013's datasheet view.  We've decided to go with larger fixed column widths  in custom styles.  There is always the option to export the list/library to Excel and work with a linked workbook.

Nevertheless, thank you for your input.

I am struggling with the same issue. It looks like the datasheet view is now raw html/JavaScript so I am going to try and overlay the resized from Jquery UI to see if I can get back this feature. I will post again if it works. Otherwise, I would love to know if anyone else figures this out.

I am dissapointed. It seems to be a lot of functionallity that disappeared in Datasheet view when switching from Sharepoint 2010 online to 2013 online. In addition to set column width, I also miss double-click to add and access attached files, Excel style copy cells, easy scroling, etc. Or have I missed something? Is it possible to revert back to 2010 datasheet style?

I am really disappointed also. We had several linked web parts in datasheet view that no longer work. I don't get it - we have been useing this extensively in SharePoint since 2007. Our users would constantly Copy/Paste between Excel and SharePoint datasheet view lists on a daily basis. Now that functionality is gone. Any suggestions for a work around?

Count me as also disappointed.  The 2010 Datasheet view was very useful...What they are calling "datasheet" in 2013 is simple NOT.

GIVE US A THIRD OPTION- 2010 Style Datasheet.

what if we have absolutely different business requirement? Was it too complex to save existing functionality?! I wish to have ability to create columns in datasheet view as it was easy!

Add another disappointed SP developer. I guess I'm going nto have to write an app to get that functionality back.

Bad show, guys, an upgrade is supposed to ADD functionality, not remove it.

Has there been any more progress on custom column widths? This is the number 1 complaint of our users. Some of them have taken to dumping files on network shares instead of in the document library (which we want to avoid). We have been using a Bamboo webpart that allows columns to be resized, but it doesn't quite tick all of the boxes of Quick Edit view. Certainly the bulk metadata editing is not as easy.

Check out new SharePoint add-in from Sharepointalist - List Booster - it enables column resize in regular view and quick edit view - http://www.spbooster.com
