SharePoint 2013 - SharePoint Workflow 2010 Custom InfoPath Task Form - Crashing Outlook on 'Open this Task'

Hi Guys,

I'm getting quite a bizarre issue on my SP 2013 Farm. I have a SP2010 Workflow created via SPDesigner which has a Custom Approval Process with an InfoPath Task Form with a required field.

The Approval Task Form works fine when opened from the browser.

Problem is that Users when trying to approve task from Outlook Open the Task Notification Email,

Clicks on the "open this task" button and fills in the form. The moment they try adding a in the required field (which is a person or group field), the Form Crashes Outlook.

Another SPdesigner Workflow that also have a custom Approval Process does not have this issue.

This issue was reported on Win 7, 8 and 8.1 with outlook 2010 and 2013.

Grateful if you could help!

Thanks and Regards,

Rhyan.

Hi Rhyan,

I tested the same scenario per your post in my environment with Windows 8.1, however the task form worked fine with Outlook when I filled in values in People and Group field in the form.

I recommend to do the steps below for narrowing down the issue scope:

  1. Add a single line of text field in the task form to see how it works.
  2. Use another account with the custom approval workflow, open the task form in Outlook and then compare the results.
  3. Check event log and ULS log to see if anything unexpected occurred.
  4. Repair Office and then check the results.

Best regards,

Victoria

Hi Victoria,

I have the same error when I click on "Edit This Task" button, but with Outlook 2010 and Sharepoint 2007. Outlook crashes, and in the Windows Log throws an error in mso.dll, that have the version 14.0.7116.5000, and have Outlook 14.0.7113.5000. I try to reproduce this error on another installation of Outlook (64 bit) and the error can't execute. Because of that, I try to change the version of the Outlook of the error to 14.0.7116.5000 (the same version of the Outlook 64 bit) with no results.

Thanks and Regards,

Juan.
