Is there any solution to refresh PPIV data model multiple times a day in SharePoint 2013?

I looked at the following link as suggested in another similar MSDN thread - https://smithicus.wordpress.com/2011/08/09/using-a-custom-data-refresh-schedule-in-powerpivot-for-sharepoint/

But this doesn't work in SharePoint 2013, since PPIV application db structure has changed significantly and data refresh schedule is stored on the workbook metadata.

Has anyone tried anything that works in SharePoint 2013?

We are looking into using Power Update tool, but would like to know what other options we have.
