SharePoint 2013: Information Rights Management (IRM) Log Errors
Hi, I have been frequently seeing Event ID Errors 5823 and 5819 for Information Rights Management appearing in my logs. Through the ULS logs I have been able to track this down and reproduce the error by saving a password encrypted Office document into SharePoint.
What I don't understand is why I am seeing these errors when I do not have IRM configured. It is set to Do not use IRM on this server in CA. Can anyone
explain what is going on under the hood? I know I can ignore them but is there any way I can stop these errors being generated?

It might be due to the metadata syncs between SharePoint and the office application. With the xml based document formats they try to sync metadata from SharePoint into the xml itself so it's persisted offline. With Password protection that obviously can't
happen. I'm not sure why they'd be tagged as IRM though so I might be going off on a tangent.

Thanks Alex, there is definitely a whole bunch of stuff going on with IRM, which surprises me when it isn't configured to use it. This is what I'm seeing in my ULS logs.

I'm seeing the errors 5823 and 5819 every half hour on my App server as well, (SP2013) and IRM is not configured in Central Admin..
I haven't found any solutions yet

Same situation in my farm. Anyone has any solutions or can we safely ignore these errors??

Hello Wendy,
I wish I could help you but we are having exactly the same issue. I am sure we have never tried to configure IRM and now we cant get rid of these errors. So far, I have found this problem is caused by application pool missing permissions for
C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\_wmcs\ServerCertification.asmx, but this file is only created during IRM configuration as far as I know. Not our case...
Really have no idea..
