Hi, 1. which authentication you are using for your web application (NTLM or Kerberos) 2. Make sure that you have site collection admin right in web application user policy or site collection admin. Please provide some more information about your authentication and accessCheers, Hemendra-MCTS "Yesterday is just a memory,Tomorrow we may never see"

Hi Hemendra. Okay we use NTLM authentication, this is hoe the setup is(note i did not set this up in the first place, just took it over from a shitty admin) We have a server running windows 2008 r2, SQL and SharePoint 2010, this is our intranet, then on that server we have a VM, running windows 2008 r2, And SharePoint, this VM is our website on SharePoint. the one with the issue is the website server, on your point 2 it has full control over the site, from this server i can access our A.D server. So everyone can access the website, but company user's can also log in on the site, and this works, but when i want to add a user to a group, like say the owner's group it fails, or when you view a user's rights, it give's the same error.

Okay on my SharePoint server, when i want to grant a user permission to lets say the Owner's group, i go and search for the user in A.D find Him, and when i add him i get this error, Server error in '/'Application. the same happens when i say select a user to view his permissions in SharePoint, i get the same service, also in IIS i had a look at the accounts that the application pools are using and they are a domain account with the correct rights to connect to A.D. In event log this is the event. Event code: 3005 Event message: An unhandled exception has occurred.
