SharePoint 2007 scenario
Can this be a procedure for database mirroring failover and notification of a (backup) web front end server at a failover location to a different SQL Server. Is this a viable sceanrio????? Input from anyone is welcome. Maryland SERVERHQCLU01 (Principal SQL Server) SERVERHQIIS01 (Primary WFE Server) Texas SERVERREG4CLU01 (Mirrored SQL Server) SERVERREG4IIS01 (Failover WFE Server) Notes: SERVERHQIIS01, SERVERHQCLU01 and SERVERREG4IIS01 are all in the same farm SERVERREG4IIS01 is not visible to outside world until a DMZ failover makes this server visible to the outside world. Network Load Balancing cannot be used in this scenario. 1) From SERVERREG4IIS01 Start SharePoint Products and Technology Configuration Wizard 2) Disjoin SERVERREG4IIS01 from the farm. 3) Manually failover databases from SERVERHQCLU01 (Principal SQL Server) to SERVERREG4CLU01 (Mirror SQL Server) using ALTER DATABASE command in SQL for: SharedServices1_DB SharedServices1_Search_DB SharePoint_AdminContent_1f60602d-895d-4ea6-92a5-417b530b9ece SharePoint_Config_New_1 WSS_Content WSS_Content_MySite WSS_Search_SERVERHQIIS01 Note: Once failed-over, website and SharePoint Central Admin will not work. 4) Logon or RDP to SERVERREG4IIS01 5) From SERVERREG4IIS01 Start SharePoint Products and Technology Configuration Wizard 6) Select “Yes, I want to connect to an existing server farm” 7) Specify new SQL server name SERVERREG4CLU01 8) Use domain\account and password for Database Access Account 9) Specify port number 10) Complete setup

wouldn't it be a lot simplier to have a fully fonctional SERVERREG4IIS01 (with its unused central admin) , log ship the DBs from one SQL to the other, and generally only network route your domain to texas cluster (nominal) or maryland (failover) ? Are both clusters in the same domain?

what is unclear to me is your requirement to disjoin / rejoin the farm with your DR CA (failover WFE) if everybody is in the same domain and sql data is up to date, you'd have 100% functionality at any time on every WFE. Being both in a dmz and being in the same domain sounds strange to me, but i might be missing something? I usually see the server in dmz in in a untrusted domain. Anyway i don't see any requirement to join the farm as far as i understand the architecture. The failover WFE can have a backup central admin (there's a regkey and an AAM to set for this), and he'll connect to SQL on 1433. Being accessible from the outside or not is a network problem, moss won't care a bit :)
