SharePoint 2007 requiring constant authentication
Our qual/test environment seems to have lost its mind, and I'm not sure when or how. Symptoms: 1) We get Windows Security pop-ups randomly when accessing sites/functionality. We can enter our credentials and check the "Remember my credentials", then click OK, but you generally have to do it multiple times in a row; 2) When trying to edit a list in datasheet mode, we get the Windows Security pop up as above and the "you have pending changes..." warning box. If you click "Yes" to wait for the changes to complete, you then get the "Resolve Errors" box. Retrying does not work; 3) If we export a list to an iqy file, then try to open it, we get "Cannot connect to the server at this time. Changes to your data cannot be saved."; This only happens in our qual/test environment, not our production environment. The only significant difference between the servers, is that production is on SQL 2005 SP2, while the qual/test SQL server was recently updated to SQL 2005 SP4. Our desktops are Windows 7 with IE 8 and Office 2007. I don't see any errors on the server event logs. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

What is the security zone configured for the qual/test sites in you internet explorer ? Can you check by adding the site to Intranet zone/Trusted zoneAravind http://aravindrises.blogspot.com

All of our sites are included in a *.domainname reference. I'm suspecting SQL, at this point, simply because the qual/test SQL server had a hotfix applied in Sept and SP4 applied last week, which the prod environment hasn't had, and things stopped working right around the same time.

Can you try using Fiddler to find out what are the resources causing the HTTP 401 errors ? this will help us identifying the resources which are invoking the security popupAravind http://aravindrises.blogspot.com

hello I doubt that these problems are related with SQL Server somehow. For such problems client configuration is also valuable. E.g. different Office versions have different level of compatibility with Sharepoint. Also client browser version is important. So do you use the same client environment for browsing sites on QA environment and on production environment. If not - try to identify differences between client environments. Check also is your site included into Trusted sites on both client environments - it also may be important.Blog - http://sadomovalex.blogspot.com CAML via C# - http://camlex.codeplex.com Graphs visualization in Sharepoint - http://spgraphviz.codeplex.com

OK, I may be missing something here, but why would IE settings be an issue if the prod environment works just fine, but qual doesn't?

Prod environment URLs might be added to Trusted security zone/Intranet security zone wherein your qual environment URLs might not.Aravind http://aravindrises.blogspot.com
