SharePoint 2007 on Windows 7 with SharePoint 2007 Server?
I have been using SharePoint Designer 2007 on Windows XP successfully on a client's SharePoint server. When I use the same install program (freshly downloaded from Microsoft) to put SharePoint Designer 2007 onto a Windows 7 machine, then when access that same server, SharePoint Designer reports: "Server error: The version of Windows SharePoint Services running on the server is more recent than the verssion of SharePoint Designer you are using. You need a more recent version of SharePoint Designer". I cannot find a more recent version of SharePoint Designer 2007 other than SharePoint Designer 2010. But SharePoint Designer 2010 does not work on SharePoint Servers of version less than 2010! : is this a bogus error message? : is there a update to SharePoint 2007 that will work? : any other thoughts. Thanks!--rms www.rmschneider.com

Hi, Try to delete the password cache on your computer: Control Panel > User Accounts > Advanced > Manage Passwords >Delete all "Passport" accounts. Cheers,Daniel Bugday Web: SharePoint Forum Blog: SharePoint By Bugday

Daniel, Thanks. Who would have thought? Anyway, I cannot find "Advanced > ..." in User Accounts. I'm running Windows 7. There is no "advanced" and I've checked all the options and can't find reference to password cache or "passport" accounts. All credentials removed. On first launch of SP Designer 2007, I instructed it to open the live site, entered credentials. Weirdly, SP Designer just thrashed. No other description. killed it. restarted, this time after login got same message: "Server error: The version of Windows SharePoint Services running on the server is more recent than the verssion of SharePoint Designer you are using. You need a more recent version of SharePoint Designer". It is an https site, if this makes a difference. Also, SP 2007 on Win 7 works fine on another 3rd party SP 2007 server I use; so issue appears to be related specifically to the SP 2007 server in question. I'm seeking to find out if anything recently changed but I suspect the answer is no. Must be some sort of server or client setting. Mystery. --rms www.rmschneider.com

Did you ever apply the service pack for Office 2007 Service pack for SPD 2007? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/953292 There is a SP1 and SP2, those should be applied, if you look at the list of fixes in SP1 and SP2 you'll find your problem listed.
