SharePoint 2007 distribution groups
I've run in to a problem trying to get Distribution Groups working in my SharePoint 2007 environment. When a user creates an e-mail enabled list and associates an email address with it, no matter if I have it set to automatically approve or require approval, the group gets created in the Active Directory OU specified, but no users get populated into the group... it's empty. In my troubleshooting I have followed the steps here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262947.aspx with no luck. I have gone as far as delegating FULL control over the OU to the account that runs SharePoint Central Admin App Pool and the SharePoint App Pool (changed them to run under the same account per another snippet I found with Google), still to no avail. I changed the Central Admin identity to run under a domain administrator account with no success. At this point I'm at a loss... if anyone has any suggestions or ideas I would be extremely grateful, as I have been pounding my head on the desk over this for two weeks now. Thank you. -Zane.

Hi Zeito, What version is your SharePoint server 2007? From your post, you encountered the following issues when you assigned an email address to a SharePoint group. 1. You cannot see the "Approval/reject distribution groups" link in the central administration page. 2. The members in the SharePoint Groups did not synchronize to the AD distribution groups. As far as I know, this problem is a known issue, I suggest that you can apply the latest patch to resolve this issue if you don’t do that. You can consider applying SP2 and February Cumulative Update which is the latest patch on the test environment to fix this issue. You can also test the February CU on the test environment first to check if everything is going well. For more information about the latest CU about SharePoint, please refer to the following article: Updates Resource Center for SharePoint Products and Technologies http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/office/sharepointserver/bb735839.aspx Hope this helps. Currently running service pack 1. Upgrading to service pack 2, and February CU this weekend, and will report the results.
