SharePoint 2007 activating Office SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure
We turned on the Office SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure feature on our MOSS 2007 (after we already had sites created) to allow users to be able to use features like excel services and reporting which both require this be activated the Publishing feature to be turned on, In order to do this you have to activate the Office SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure feature at I beleive the top level site, however when we activate this feature it changes the templates and navigation for all the existing SharePoint sites in our collection. Is there a way to turn this feature on with out impacting existing site sites? Or am I doing something wrong that is causing this to happen? Basically I need to know how I can activate this option (Office SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure) to just specific sites but not all or turn it on so it does not impact all sites?

1st thing, what type of the Site collection template you are using if you are trying to enable this feature in a site collection that has not been created from Publishing template, it will not work. soultion, you need to create a new site colelction using publishing template and move the content over their. how to activate the feature good posts: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint-server-help/enable-publishing-features-HA010157772.aspx or http://www.click2learn.ch/Lists/Announcements/DispForm.aspx?ID=18 hope this helps thanks -wsSharePoint administrator, MCTS,MCITP

Patti, there are 2 different features that work together, The Publishing Infrastructure feature is for an entire site collection, this cannot be activated for an individual subsite (web). The Office SharePoint Server Publishing feature can be activated on a site by site basis within a site collection. I have enabled the Publishing Infrastructure feature in existing site collections without any problems, i'm not sure why this did not work for WS.Dean MCTS-SQL 2005 Business Intelligence

Thanks well it is not that it did not work it worked fine or seemed to the issue I have is the activating The Publishing Infrastructure feature changed all the sub-sites navigation completely, in terms of look and feel of sub-sites. I guess I do not see the connection or the reason it would do that, and was hoping there was a way to undo these changes in sites that were impacted. The minute I deactivted the feature everyones sites went back to normal (thankfully :)). Thanks for the feedback I appreciate it. Patti Teehan

the look and feed of the navigation is typically controlled by the Master Page, enabling the Publishing Infrastructure provides you with new capablities for controlling the navigation via the Site Settings, Modify Navigation menu.Dean MCTS-SQL 2005 Business Intelligence
