SharePoint 2007 Windows 2003 virtual machine on 64bit
On my old labtop (windows xp) I was using a SharePoint 2007 + Windows 2003 virtual machine (vhd) (I was using the free Microsoft Virtual PC to use it) .But my labtop was very slow so I bought a new machine which has Windows 7 professional 64 bit.So how could I use my old vhd? I heard Virtual pc doesn't work on 64 bit windows. After some search in google I read about VMWare Server which is free.I read v1 is better than v2.But I have no idea about it and didn't use it before is it safe?I am too late but i will never give up

Hi Eagle... You are correct, Windows 7 will not support the VHD you want to use from you old system. There are a few options you can try, 1. VMWare "Desktop" not server is about $200.00 but you can bing or the G word search for a coupon code to get the cost down a bit and it does have a vhd converter to use the old vhd. VMWare uses memory much better than number 2 so you'll get better performance out of it. 2. you can try the free Sun's Virtual Box http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads but you'll need to rebuild your OS from scratch. I have been using VMWare for years and like the features that come with it, there's also support and Virtual Box is Open Source so there is no support besides a forums. Good Luck... On VMWare Server 2... I learned something new, I didn't know it was free but looks like it might lack converter features but lets you mount vhd's.. I guess you mean by "VMWare Desktop" the workstation version right? It seems there is no good free solution these days because every one go to the VMWare WorkStation version.I am too late but i will never give up

It's one time unless you want support then they sell packages... I was running the same version for like 2 years and upgraded because I lost my orignial key but you should check all of that with them before you buy if you have questions.Kris Wagner, MVP, MCITP, MCTS Twitter @sharepointkris Blog: http://www.sharepointkris.com/blog
