SharePoint 2007 Restore issues
I backed up my web site on my production server using Central Admin. When I try to restore that web site on my development server I get the following error message. Object SharePoint_WSS_Content_DEV (previous name: SharePoint_WSS_Content_Live) failed in event OnRestore. For more information, see the error log located in the backup directory. SPException: The specified component exists. You must specify a name that does not exist. Can this be accomplished? I am using SharePoint 2007, WSS3.

It sounds like, based on the error you're seeing, you've already got a database in that environment with the same name. If you do, you'll need to remove that old database from the farm before you can attach the production backup. If you don't see another database in the farm with the same name, you might check SQL Server as well. If you're not finding anything, can you check the log file associated with your restore operation to see if there's more relevant information you could post here to help us troubleshoot? In addition to what John has suggested, What is the size of the database? Both environments on same patch levels? SQL DB permissions Avoid using Central Admin GUI :) Blog: Alpesh Nakar's Blog | Twitter: Follow Alpesh on Twitter |SharePoint Resources: Just SharePoint Resource Center | Follow Just SharePoint updates on Twitter

there would also be a case where the mdf file or the ldf file would have the same name as the one (being restored)and is placed in the same location where the mdf and ldf files are getting dumped while restore..

Hi Dranium, Not sure how you restore from the backup, please follow the steps below to see if it will work. 1. Go to the “Central Administration” Page and click "Restore from backup" 2. Specify the restore location and select the backup file for restoring. 3. Select a web application and click "Continue Restore Process". 4. Select "New Configuration" and change the new database name from WSS_Content_DEV to another name for example: WSS_Content_DEV_NEW 5. Change other related information that you would like to restore and click “OK”. If the problem still exists, you may need to find errors in ULS logs for more clue. Hope this helps. Lu Zou
