Setting up backup for Hyper V cluster

I have a 12 Node hyper V cluster with 3 CSV volumes of 5 TB each and 90 Virtual Machines (As of now)..I am planning to implement a backup  for these servers.

Hyper V host OS :  Windows 2008 R2 SP1 Datacenter Core Edition

VM's -  Win 2008 and Win 2003 servers

So far I am taking these backups manually to Tape using CA Arcserve which is very much time consuming and I Have no guarantee on the time to restore these..  Can some one share your experience on implementing this backup in your company or at your customer sites..

Hi Hashir,

It sounds like your environment is a good candidate for protection using DPM.  I am going to refer you to a very detailed post by a fellow MVP on backing up Hyper-V with DPM. This is the link: http://virtualisationandmanagement.wordpress.com/2010/10/11/hyper-v-csv-protection-with-dpm-2010/ . I would recommend checking out this post.

Hi ,

Thanks for the detailed steps.

I am testing DPM 2012 on the Hyper V test cluster which has 2 nodes and two CSV's... Share me if you some documents..

I have created a two node cluster with two csv's and tested DPM short term backup (disk based) which working fine. Now I am testing D2D2T....

When the tape backup run's will DPM reads from the disk backup which is already happened part of short term protection or will it take from the server again....
