Server Version Upgrade Problem
Hi Everyone, We are trying to replace Sharepoint server. Therefore we need to perform a backup-restore process. The old server is 32 bit and the new one is 64 bit. We installed the MOSS 2007 SP2 (64bit) successfully on the new server. The version number of the server was 12.0.0.6421 as expected. But since the version of the current system is 12.0.0.6510 we needed to setup some hotfix packages. We downloaded required hotfix packages and installed them on the server. But version number of the server still remains as 12.0.0.6421... (I check it on the central admin/farm servers section) We run the config. wizard and also restarted the server after installation. But the version number still same. Interestingly, versions of the related dlls (which are affected by the hotfixes) are upgraded?!! Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Baris

yes, you have to install both wss and moss packages :) refer to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc263467(office.12).aspx for example, Although Microsoft does not enforce the update installation sequence, we recommend that you install the post-RTM updates for Office SharePoint Server that you require in the following sequence: Service Pack 2 for Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 (KB 953338) Service Pack 2 for Office SharePoint Server 2007 (KB 953334) The October CU for Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 (KB 975002) The October CU for Office SharePoint Server 2007 (KB 975731) Mind the language packs also, btw.

it's true that you should have a wss package, called "wss package", and a wss+moss package called "moss package" :D at least the language packs are included in them now, and they are cumulative! i tell you, it was worse before, hehe :) edit : to clarify, you have TWO products when you install moss. WSS is standalone, after all.
