Server 2012 shared folders available offline

Good afternoon

We have a windows 2012 standard server which at present is having issues with file searches, not finding files that can be seen present in the windows explorer search. The index has been rebuilt but this has not helped.

Another workaround this issue is to make the folder that is trying to be searched available offline and index the offline files to see if this helps. However I cannot see the option to make a folder available offline, would someone be able to tell me how to do this?

The server has the file and storage services role partially installed, with the Storage services and the File and iSCSI service file server feature installed.

Due to this causing problems and frustration for users, assistance in this matter would be appreciated.

Hi,

Offline option could be found when you right click on a folder inside a shared folder:

If it is grayed out, check the shared folder locally and see if it allows users to enable offline:

Hi there

What can I do if the 'always available offline' option does not appear at all? is this added or removed by a specific server role?
