Server 2012 R2 how to schedule weekly automatic Windows updates?

Hello!

I have a question about Server 2012 R2 and how to schedule weekly automatic Windows updates?

In task scheduler, there is a task of "Regular Maintenance", i have tried to change the trigger from daily to weekly, but after server restart, it goes back.

I have client servers, that do not have WSUS installed and some of them (like Hyper-V hosts) are even in workgroup, but i want to schedule weekly automatic updates on them.

And also i need to schedule, that a reboot happens after updates are installed not some random time. For some clients who has like two domain controllers, i want them to restart after updates, but on different time.

Hello,

You can simply use group policies. Windows updates are located in Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Windows Updates.

You can do it with Domain GPO and with local GPO for your workgroup.

Best Regards.

I searched around and found the same solution, from this thread: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/92451b9d-4009-4a1d-93c3-3d7623ee8821/windows-server-2012-r2-still-hasnt-fixed-update-problems?forum=winserver8gen

Use the Configure Automatic Updates policy:
Enable the policy
Use option #4 Auto download and schedule the install
uncheck Install during automatic maintenance
Set 6 Every Friday for the scheduled install day
Set 23:00 for the scheduled install time

Use the Always automatically restart at the scheduled time policy:
Enable the policy
Configure the timer to the desired value (default is 15 minutes)
